About the Project

The Wade Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Wade name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Wade name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual team studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Wades), by time period (18th Century Wades), or by topic (Wade DNA, Wade Occupations, Wade Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Hello

Have you had a chance to review the Trusted List request I sent a week ago on 4 Aug 18?

There’s no way to say this politely so please know that no offense is intended! I think my ancestors were owned by the Halifax Wades at some point. My 3rd great grandparents are Hampton and Sarah Wade. Hampton & Sarah were born sometime between 1815 & 1825. They had several children after 1864 but the ones born before the civil war are harder to track. I am a descendent of their son, John (Jack), who was born around 1850 and I believe they had a child named Robert (there are several Roberts in the next generation). Robert would have been born sometime before the Civil War

The Prince Edward, VA Cohabitation Register lists both of their birthplaces as Lunenburg County, VA (part of Lunenburg County was given up to establish Halifax County) and their last owner as Philip Sneed (or Snead in some documents). If anyone happens to come across any diaries or inventories that mention those specific slaves, please contact me!! I’m just now getting my tree loaded to Wikitree so it’s in quite incomplete but you should be able to see them and some of their descendants.

I stumbled across these articles about John Wade and his line. I thought it may be helpful to others in their family research.
